About the position

At Roche, we are committed to advancing science and making next-generation sequencing simple and accessible for routine use. The Electrical Engineer III will play a pivotal role within the Roche Sequencing Solutions Division, contributing to the design, development, and integration of electrical subsystems for next-generation sequencing systems and custom equipment. These systems encompass fluidic, mechatronic, pneumatic, thermal, and optical subsystems, which are essential for highly automated DNA sequencing pipelines and other diagnostic applications. In this role, you will be responsible for defining and refining requirements, generating system architecture, selecting and evaluating components, and designing custom PCBAs and wiring harnesses. You will oversee system-level assembly, testing, and troubleshooting, ensuring that all components work seamlessly together. Additionally, you will develop firmware and collaborate closely with firmware and software engineers during the bring-up and integration efforts. This position is based on-site in Santa Clara, CA, and relocation benefits are not offered for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, development, and integration of electrical subsystems for next-generation sequencing systems.
  • Define and refine requirements for electrical systems.
  • Generate system architecture and select/evaluate components for integration.
  • Design custom PCBAs and wiring harnesses for sequencing systems.
  • Oversee system-level assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical subsystems.

  • Proficiency with OrCAD and Allegro, or similar design tools.
  • Proficiency with common electrical test and measurement equipment (DC Power Supply, Digital Multimeter, Oscilloscope, Power Analyzer).
  • Experience in PCBA design for power distribution/regulation, analog signal acquisition and processing, and control of motion, thermal, fluidic/pneumatic, and optical applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SPICE or similar simulation tools.
  • Experience with SolidWorks or similar mechanical CAD tools.
  • Familiarity with common communication protocols (CAN, RS232, RS485, I2C) and their implementation challenges.
  • Experience with cable harness design tools and documentation (Arcadia, Lucidchart, RapidHarness, or similar).
  • Experience with design control under ISO13485 and familiarity with IEC 60601/62304 standards.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence internal partners and stakeholders.
