About the position

Merrick & Company is offering a paid summer internship for college or graduate school Electrical students at our Greenwood Village, CO office for Summer 2025. This internship is designed to support the Electrical team within Merrick's Life Sciences business unit. Interns will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of projects, including biocontainment laboratories and other research facilities, providing a unique chance to work on rewarding client projects while receiving unparalleled training and development opportunities. The internship is expected to run from approximately mid-May through mid-August 2025, with resumes being accepted from September to November 2024. Interviews will occur in the Fall/Winter, and offers will be extended in Winter/Spring, although this timeframe is subject to change. The Merrick Internship Program aims to provide undergraduate or graduate students with valuable technical experience in electrical design. Interns will be exposed to a range of electrical engineering tasks, including facility electrical power, lighting, grounding, fire detection, lighting systems, communication systems, and security and access control. Successful candidates will collaborate with other disciplines, interface with clients and contractors, adhere to schedules and budget commitments, and demonstrate the ability to work independently. Strong written and oral communication skills, along with problem-solving abilities, are essential. Attendance and punctuality are critical, and students who have recently graduated will not be considered for this internship, as they should look for Entry Level Electrical Engineer positions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Electrical team in various projects related to electrical design.
  • Gain technical experience in facility electrical power, lighting, grounding, and fire detection systems.
  • Assist in the design of communication systems and security/access control systems.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and interface with clients and contractors.
  • Follow project schedules and budget commitments while working independently.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or technologist degree program, entering junior year or higher.
  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technologist with an electrical emphasis.
  • Knowledge of facility electrical and lighting design and/or power system design.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for client projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Familiarity with power distribution design software such as SKM, PowerTools, or Easy Power.
  • Local candidates preferred.
