Electrical Engineer - IoT Systems

Responsibilities

• Design electrical circuits, schematics, and PCB layouts for IoT devices, including power management, analog, digital signal processing, and communication interfaces like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular networks.
• Select and integrate various sensors (temperature, motion, etc.) into electrical systems, ensuring accurate data collection and transmission.
• Develop firmware for microcontrollers within IoT devices, managing data acquisition, processing and communication protocols.
• Design and implement data pipelines to connect IoT devices to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, etc.) for data storage, analysis and visualization.
• Understand and utilize relevant IoT communication protocols like MQTT, CoAP and REST API's to facilitate data exchange between devices and the cloud.
• Design and implement security measures for IoT devices, including data encryption, authentication and access control to protect against cyber threats.
• Conduct thorough testing of electrical systems and IoT devices to ensure functionality, reliability and compliance with relevant standards.
• Identify and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software and network connectivity in deployed IoT systems.
• Work closely with cross-functional teams including software developers, data analysts and product managers to bring IoT solutions to market.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of circuit design, power systems, analog and digital electronics and electrical components.
• Proficiency in C/C++ programming languages for embedded systems development.
• Familiarity with major cloud-based IoT platforms like AWS, Azure or Google Cloud.
• Knowledge of relevant networking protocols such as TCP/IP, UDP and Wi-Fi.
• Ability to interpret and analyze data collected from IoT devices to generate actionable insights.
• Understanding of IoT security best practices, including encryption, authentication and access control.
• Ability to read, write, and interpret engineering documents and drawings.
• Must be able to translate engineering jargon into understandable English for customers, Marketing, Sales, and others.
• Must be able to understand engineering principles, scientific theory, financial terms, and mathematics up to and including simple calculus.
• Ability to visualize complex mechanical interfaces and deal with multiple variables.
• Make sound engineering and personnel judgements in a timely manner that benefit the company, customers, and consumers.
• The employee is regularly required to sit, talk, and hear. Ability to climb ladders to inspect product installations a plus.
