About the position

Kimley-Horn's Dallas office is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join their MEP team, focusing on large-scale HVAC design and complex electrical systems for MEP projects. The role involves collaboration across disciplines, mentoring junior staff, and contributing to the growth of electrical engineering services.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing team in large scale HVAC design.
  • Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for MEP projects.
  • Develop design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, equipment schematics, and block diagrams.
  • Perform electrical system calculations and create one-line diagrams.
  • Interact and collaborate daily with multi-disciplinary teams across Kimley-Horn offices.
  • Prepare project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals.
  • Assist in mentoring, training, and growing the MEP team.
  • Develop reports and design documents, including electrical design plans and power analyses.
  • Coordinate with specialists for fire alarm, technology, and lighting design as required.
  • Work with architects and other engineers for equipment power needs and sizing electrical distribution.

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards.
  • Willingness to travel for site visits and client meetings.
  • Ability to work in a team and mentor junior staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in utility-scale PV, MEP, HVAC, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, substation, or data center designs.
  • Experience in engineering project management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent.
  • Experience in transient studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or equivalent.
  • Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32, or equivalent.
  • Comfortable programming in Python or MATLAB.
