About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at Vanderweil Engineers is a hybrid role focused on designing safe, reliable, and effective electrical systems for various building types. The role is open to both mid-level and senior-level engineers, emphasizing growth and innovation within a supportive work environment. The Electrical Department aims to create sustainable systems that can adapt to future needs, and the engineer will collaborate with a project team to ensure integration with overall project goals.

Responsibilities

  • Execute electrical designs in accordance with the Electrical Department's Procedures and Standards and specific client standards where applicable.
  • Understand electrical distribution equipment and workspace requirements for various sectors including office, laboratories, hospitality, mission critical, residential, healthcare, and schools.
  • Possess knowledge of emergency systems including generators, ATS, and lighting inverters.
  • Use Revit to model electrical system components according to department and client procedures and standards.
  • Prepare backup documentation to support design efforts including load calculations, voltage drop calculations, and lighting power density using ComCheckEZ.
  • Model a one-line diagram in SKM and execute a short circuit analysis and coordination study.
  • Understand applicable Codes and Standards.
  • Create specifications for basic projects utilizing CSI MasterFormat and on-drawing specifications.
  • Work as part of a project team to produce engineering solutions for large-scale and complex building projects, coordinating with other design team members.
  • Perform site surveys of existing conditions to inform design activities.
  • Engage in construction administration activities including submittal reviews, RFI responses, and shop drawing reviews.
  • Mentor junior engineers in a senior position.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Revit required.
  • Strong understanding of the NEC, IBC, and IECC.
  • Experience with SKM, AGI 32, and AMPCALC 4 desired.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • 5+ years' experience (mid-level) designing electrical systems in the MEP building design industry.
  • 9+ years' experience (senior level) designing electrical systems in the MEP building design industry.
  • LEED accreditation helpful.
  • Ability to attain FE/PE.
