About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at Oshkosh, WI involves overseeing and coordinating engineering projects related to the repair and upkeep of production equipment, as well as new installations of capital equipment. The role requires active involvement in troubleshooting unplanned breakdowns, ensuring compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental standards, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within the plant. The engineer will work closely with operations and maintenance teams to enhance equipment uptime and drive overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate engineering project work including repair and upkeep of production equipment and new installations.
  • Support day-to-day troubleshooting of unplanned breakdowns in a cross-functional environment.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Actively support operations to reduce unplanned downtime and drive OEE improvements.
  • Understand and operate within various drive and PLC platforms, creating logic and programming to enhance production equipment performance.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen Teams and Safety Teams.
  • Identify customer needs by diagnosing problems and developing solutions to define project scope.
  • Establish and facilitate project teams, documenting meetings and project progress.
  • Estimate project costs and develop project schedules with limited guidance.
  • Prepare engineering packages including designs, calculations, layouts, and schematics for assigned projects.
  • Determine materials required for projects, including vendor reviews and purchase requisitions.
  • Manage project costs and schedules, providing communication for multiple engineering projects.
  • Complete project closeout and post-mortem analysis for relevant projects.
  • Provide project management training and support to less-experienced engineering team members.
  • Communicate project information in a timely manner to relevant stakeholders.
  • Interface with departments and vendors to ensure equipment is delivered on schedule and to specifications.
  • Assist with installation, checkout, start-up, and training as necessary.
  • Provide engineering support and troubleshooting for machine breakdowns that maintenance cannot resolve.
  • Assist the Maintenance Department with equipment improvement programs and initiatives.
  • Participate in the interview process for department openings.
  • Provide purchasing services for project materials, including vendor coordination and price negotiation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in manufacturing or equivalent Project Engineering role.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills for collaboration with suppliers and internal departments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel; AutoCAD experience is required.
  • Knowledge and experience with PLC and drive programming software.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of safety, security, and fire control systems and relevant regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written forms at all organizational levels.
  • Adept at troubleshooting and setting direction for projects.
  • Ability to adapt to changing timelines and schedules, with on-call support as needed.
