About the position

Moffatt & Nichol is actively seeking a mid-level Electrical Engineer specializing in power systems to join our Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation (MEI) team in either our Walnut Creek or Oakland office. This role is integral to our operations, focusing on both large and small projects that span local, domestic, and international scopes. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing plans, designs, and production for general electrical engineering across a diverse range of projects. These projects may include electrical infrastructure for ports, waterfronts, industrial and commercial facilities, offshore wind projects, as well as government and military installations. As part of the MEI team, you will collaborate with Senior Engineers and other project managers across various disciplines. Your responsibilities will encompass the creation of electrical designs, including lighting, power, and grounding plans, one-line diagrams, panel and cable schedules, and project specifications. You will also engage in construction management activities, which include submittal reviews and construction observations for electrical work on projects. This position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for a blend of office and on-site work, which may involve travel to project sites to meet with clients, sub-consultants, and utilities to ensure project requirements are met. Responsibilities

  • Complete electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by collaborating with Project Managers and electrical teammates.
  • Provide design calculations, design drawings, and project specifications for medium/low voltage power distribution systems, grounding systems, lighting systems, lightning protection systems, communications systems, and electrical equipment design.
  • Prepare detailed contract documents, studies, and cost estimates for projects.
  • Perform construction management activities such as submittal reviews and construction observations for electrical work on projects.
  • Assist with the electrical designs for multidiscipline projects and evaluations of project scopes.
  • Travel to project sites or meet with clients, sub-consultants, utilities, and other parties to investigate site conditions and meet project requirements.
  • Assist in companywide Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology; required.
  • 4 to 6 years of related experience in medium/low voltage power distribution systems, grounding systems, lighting systems, communications systems, and electrical equipment design.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit; required.
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC); required.
  • Analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint), report and letter writing, and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering; preferred.
  • Professional Engineer licensure in the State of California; preferred.
  • Proficiency in ETAP or EasyPower and AGI32; preferred.
  • Experience with power system studies; preferred.
