About the position

Amazon is seeking a talented and motivated Power Engineer to work on specifying and integrating 100-600VAC power supplies and batteries within industrial automation products. The role involves designing electrical connections inside industrial electrical cabinets and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to execute product designs from concept to production. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in electrical engineering, particularly in AC/DC and DC/DC systems, and will contribute to impactful projects within Amazon's global industrial Fulfillment Network.

Responsibilities

• Design Industrial Electrical Control Panel schematics following industry best practices.
• Review specifications and schematics for compliance with relevant safety standards such as NFPA79 and UL508a.
• Work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including design, prototyping, validation, testing and certification.
• Specify, Integrate and Deploy AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies as part of Electrical Control Panels in industrial automation equipment.
• Specify, Integrate and Deploy semi-custom batteries and super-capacitors in industrial automation systems.
• Ensure the specifications of the power system meet the customer needs as well as regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate all activities within the engineering discipline for the project.
• Ensure coordination with other disciplines is effective for each project.
• Write and develop functional specifications, design verification plans and test procedures.
• Support product releases to manufacturing and customer deployments.
• Execute tasks to aggressive schedules.
• Establish development processes to meet industry standards for functionally safe control systems (IEC 61508).

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience designing the electrical connections inside industrial electrical AC/DC and DC/DC cabinets with voltages in the 100-600VAC and 5-60VDC ranges.
• Experience with prototyping and implementation.
• Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures.
• Experience specifying COTs components for use within 100-600VAC systems: Breakers, relays and fuses, Power line filters and choke design and selection, Power factor correction, Energy storage and regeneration (UPS, batteries, super capacitors, etc.) design and selection, Energy dissipation (bleeder resistors) design and selection.
• Experience with electrical enclosure design including layout best practices.
• Ability to lead a technical team.
• Experience executing design reviews in front of interdisciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated strong ability to move seamlessly between levels of abstraction - from system to the "nuts and bolts" implementation.
• Extensive system design interfacing to a wide array of electro-mechanical subsystems and debugging experience.
• Commitment to rigorous testing practices and design process flows.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume.
• 2+ years of experience designing 100-5,000Wh batteries or supercapacitors into mobile or stationary production systems.
• Expertise in designing electrical cabinets using EPLAN, SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, or similar tools.
• Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production.
