About the position

As an Electrical Engineer specializing in Propulsion at Anduril Industries, you will play a crucial role in the research and development of advanced aircraft engines and their components. Your work will involve designing cutting-edge combustion and fuel injection systems that are integral to the performance of military aircraft. You will be responsible for the full cycle of PCB design, which includes gathering requirements, creating schematic designs, selecting components, overseeing or completing layout tasks, and conducting the necessary testing and debugging to ensure integration with the overall system. In addition to PCB design, you will develop system interconnect diagrams and define wire harnesses that connect various electronic equipment. Your role will also require you to conduct vendor surveys and evaluations to support the sourcing of engine system components. You will participate in peer-level and cross-discipline design reviews, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary standards and requirements. Furthermore, you will be involved in the build-up and testing of engine system components through lab, ground, and flight tests, providing critical insights and data to support field operations. Root cause analysis will also be a key part of your responsibilities, helping to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during testing and operational phases.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in research and development regarding design of aircraft engines, engine components, advanced combustion and fuel injection systems.
  • Full cycle PCB design including collecting requirements, schematic design, component selection, supervision or completion of layout, bring-up, test, debug and integration with the system.
  • Develop system interconnect diagrams and define wire harnesses that connect electronic equipment.
  • Conduct vendor surveys and evaluation to support sourcing for engine system components.
  • Conduct peer-level and cross-discipline design reviews.
  • Build up and test of engine system components through lab, ground, and flight tests.
  • Perform root cause analysis in support of field operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, testing, and troubleshooting complex board designs.
  • Competence with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, thermal chambers, current-probes, and automation of tests.
  • Familiarity with standard interfaces such as CAN, I2C, SPI, etc.
  • Familiarity with common electromechanical components such as electric motors, solenoids, thermocouples, RTDs, and their specific interfacing needs.
  • Knowledge of modern analog and digital electronics and electronic circuits.
  • Comfortable with a variety of electronic CAD tools (Altium preferred, Eagle and others acceptable).
  • Experience in design for signal integrity / power integrity.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and hold a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of DO-254, DO-178C, DO-160 and relevant avionics design standards for UAS.
  • Familiarity with aircraft avionics and harnessing component suppliers from past experience in UAS programs.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Engine Management Systems (EMS), OEM or motorsport.
