About the position

We are seeking a Protection and Controls Engineer to join our growing Energy Team. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of relevant experience and will support a dynamic team in designing control equipment layouts, elementary diagrams, schematic and wiring diagrams, and plans for transmission and substation projects. This role requires a solid understanding of power systems, transformers, protective relaying, and electrical engineering principles, with involvement in developing and reviewing designs for high voltage substations and supporting protective relay settings calculations and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Perform site visits to gather data, write material procurement specifications, and create construction specifications.
• Create equipment data sheets.
• Review shop drawings and conduct equipment research.
• Use various tools, including client-specific design specifications, code manuals, CAD software, and other reference materials, to complete engineering designs.
• Support engineering release packages, including drawings and bills of materials.
• Provide technical guidance in identifying, analyzing, and resolving complex engineering problems.

Requirements

• BSEE from an ABET-accredited university
• 5+ years of experience in electrical protection and controls
• PE license or actively pursuing PE certification
• Strong understanding of protection and control principles for utility substations and transmission line equipment
• Experience designing protection schemes for substation and transmission line equipment, including bus, line, capacitor, and transformer protection schemes and associated settings
• Knowledge of SCADA communication design
• Experience managing design budgets and schedules.
