About the position

Axient is seeking Electrical Engineers (Robotics) to support the development, design, testing, and manufacturing of electronic Motion Control products and systems. These roles are collaborative and laboratory-based, primarily located in Altadena, CA, with additional opportunities in Boulder, CO, or Hyattsville, MD. The engineers will work on multi-disciplinary project teams to transition flight-ready products to manufacturing and test engineering teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support a multi-disciplinary project team collaborating on multi-board designs through development.
  • Transition a flight-ready product to the manufacturing and test engineering teams.
  • Conduct embedded system design, including schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Design digital, analog, and mixed signal systems.
  • Implement board-level communication interfaces such as I2C, SPI, UART, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, and CAN.
  • Design controlled impedance for high-speed channel designs including SpaceWire, 10GbE, and SerDes.
  • Develop linear and switch mode DC/DC power conversion systems.
  • Create documentation including test procedures, reports, interface control documents, and ECOs.
  • Perform design analysis and simulation including WCA/WCCA, reliability, radiation, and Spice.
  • Design cable and wire harness systems.
  • Ensure signal and power integrity (SI/PI) and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in embedded system design.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout, digital, analog, and mixed signal design.
  • Familiarity with board-level communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, CAN).
  • Experience in controlled impedance for high-speed channel design (SpaceWire, 10GbE, SerDes).
  • Knowledge of linear and switch mode DC/DC power conversion.
  • Ability to create documentation such as test procedures, reports, and interface control documents.
  • Experience in design analysis and simulation (WCA/WCCA, reliability, radiation, Spice).
  • Extensive experience in prototype development, debugging, and testing in a lab environment.
  • Demonstrable experience designing and launching products in regulated environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing motion control and electromechanical systems for harsh space environments.
  • Familiarity with EEE-INST-002 and radiation-hardness/mitigation.
  • Experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
  • Ability to generate technical proposal content and labor/cost estimation.
  • Proficiency in Altium Designer.
  • BS degree in a STEM field.
  • Familiarity with DSP and microcontroller firmware development in C.
  • Experience with FPGA design (Verilog and VHDL).
  • Experience in system and functional requirements generation.
