About the position

Integrated Power Services (IPS) is seeking an innovative Electrical Engineer to support the Central Region from the IPS Tulsa Service Center. This role focuses on providing technical leadership and functional support to achieve IPS's Annual Operating Plan growth and operational objectives. The engineer will develop and deploy technologies that advance IPS's strategic vision, establish uniform specifications for electric motor repair, and ensure compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

  • Test and monitor electric motor operational performance
  • Troubleshoot motor performance issues and failures in-shop and on-site
  • Perform Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) on failed motors
  • Drive the development of electrical work on repair instructions and reverse engineer motor designs
  • Lead and participate in redesign projects for various motor types
  • Provide electrical technical support to customers, repair shops, and field service activities
  • Review and approve coil designs and insulation systems
  • Ensure that repairs meet customer expectations and applicable industry standards
  • Lead and assist on potential warranty investigations for repair and field service
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards as specified for NEMA-MG1, IEEE, ASME, ASTM, MSHA, 10CFR-50 Appendix B, UL and CSA
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with operating policies and procedures
  • Supervise both in-process and final acceptance tests to confirm compliance with IPS/customer specifications
  • Assist with failure and repair reports on motors
  • Assist with the implementation of quality improvement actions
  • Actively participate in the IPS UCE tier meeting process
  • Utilize Continuous Improvement Process Solution (CIPs) tools and processes

Requirements

  • 5 years experience with AC Motors and/or Generators
  • Knowledge of AC & DC insulation systems, coil design- Volts/Turns, Volts/Mil Calculations
  • Knowledge of High Voltage Motors
  • Knowledge of Stator and Rotor Core-Loss Testing, AC and DC Hipot Testing, and Surge Comparison testing
  • Working Knowledge IEEE Standards, IEEE-101, IEEE-43, IEEE-95, IEEE-286, IEEE-522, IEEE-1043, IEEE-1553, IEEE-1434, IEEE-1068 preferred but not required
  • Hands-on knowledge of troubleshooting AC & DC motor issues
  • Working knowledge of flux calculations for AC Induction Motors
  • Proficient with Computer Aided Design programs
  • Must be able and willing to travel up to 1-2 weeks per month
