About the position

The Electrical Engineer - Safety position at Intertek involves conducting electrical testing and evaluation of various products to ensure compliance with U.S., Canadian, and international safety standards. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, project management skills, and effective communication with clients. This position offers an opportunity to work within the Transportation Technology team, contributing to the safety and quality assurance of automotive and energy storage products.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct on and off site evaluation of products to determine compliance with applicable standards.
  • Read and determine applicability of national codes and standards clauses for the equipment under test (EUT).
  • Understand client-provided or published performance or product safety standards.
  • Read and understand schematics and manufacturing instructions.
  • Validate the project scope and sample applicability.
  • Identify and locate test instruments and equipment required for testing.
  • Follow established test plans and set up EUT for testing.
  • Perform and document repairs on EUT as needed.
  • Conduct thorough construction reviews or sample inspections and document results.
  • Perform testing of products in accordance with standards, including Battery Cycling, Vibration, Temperature/Humidity soak, and more.
  • Mentor less senior technical personnel.
  • Supply information for quotes regarding project length, site needs, rental equipment, and standards used.
  • Provide specialized expertise in one product category and maintain advanced product knowledge.
  • Develop and set up test plans and operate standard test equipment.
  • Follow sample handling procedures and ensure proper logging of samples.
  • Provide sales support and communicate project status and test results to clients and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • 2+ years of directly related experience; prior project management experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with automotive and international performance and environmental simulation test standards.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automotive (SAE, OEM specific) standards.
  • Familiarity with international product safety standards such as ANSI, CSA, UL, EN, IEC.
