About the position

The Electrical Engineer - Transmission and Distribution Planning position at Versant Power involves overseeing electrical engineering duties related to transmission and distribution planning, substation planning, and project management. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with reliability standards, developing capital project plans, and collaborating with various departments to enhance system reliability and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Understand one-lines, three-lines, schematic diagrams, wiring and connection diagrams for area of Engineering focus.
  • Manage projects including fiscal control, reporting, and closing of projects.
  • Utilize technical test equipment and oversee associated data and results.
  • Provide engineering oversight and technical assistance to field personnel.
  • Develop solutions based on system needs and collaborate with other engineers and departments.
  • Facilitate the development of short-term and long-term distribution and transmission capital project plans.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC O&P Reliability Standards.
  • Supervise subcontractors and/or consultants involved in engineering duties.
  • Compile electrical system data and prepare reports as mandated by regulatory entities.
  • Perform analysis to support grid modernization and system reliability objectives.
  • Study the distribution system for capital planning needs and model using CYME software.
  • Build and update the Distribution System model using CYME software.
  • Support Distributed Generation projects and perform System Impact Studies using engineering tools.
  • Review solar developer documents and maintain project documents throughout the study process.

Requirements

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology required.
  • Five years of T&D Engineering preferred, with related field experience considered.
  • Experience with PC-based software including Excel spreadsheets preferred.
  • Maine driver's license required.
  • Identity verification and a seven-year criminal background check are required.
