About the position

AECOM is seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Engineer V within the Buildings and Places business line in Philadelphia, PA. This position will offer the opportunity to work on a variety of projects including, but not limited to, various buildings, repair facilities, train stations, high-voltage substations, and electrified railroads. The Electrical Engineer V will be responsible for preparing design drawings and documents, technical specifications, cost estimates, calculations, and studies associated with power systems. This role involves completing electrical power and lighting designs for projects of all sizes, making major design recommendations and decisions with input from senior staff, and planning design work while calculating costs and time schedules to assign design duties to junior staff working on projects. The successful candidate will prepare one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, and select substation equipment while writing specifications for the same. Coordination of design and schedule with other disciplines such as architectural, structural, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment suppliers is essential. The Electrical Engineer V will exercise judgment on details of work in making preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives, creating designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer. Maintaining accurate project documentation and design data for permanent project files is also a key responsibility. This position requires performing work in accordance with agreed-upon budgets and schedules under supervision, acting as an adviser, reviewing correspondence prepared by junior project team members, analyzing problems, writing reports, and assisting in project checking for quality control on other projects. Site investigations and walk-downs will also be part of the role, along with mentoring and training junior staff members.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering and 8 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience with electrical power and lighting designs for projects of all sizes, utilizing electrical design software.

Nice-to-haves

  • PE license or the ability to obtain within 1 year of hiring date.
  • Ability to research and apply building code, regulatory and industry code requirements.
  • Experience performing lighting design and foot-candle calculations, utilizing light design software.
  • Ability to switch between work on multiple/different projects daily.
  • Experienced in Electrical Power Calculation Software.
  • Experienced in Lighting Calculation Software.
  • Experienced in application of National Electrical Code.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA, ISA, IEEE Regulatory Codes.
  • Experience with Revit, AutoCAD, AGI 32 and SKM software.
  • Ability to travel as needed to client office locations, including project offices, if applicable.
