About the position

The Electrical Engineer at BWX Technologies, Inc. is responsible for the design, build, and support of custom automated manufacturing and inspection systems within the Lynchburg manufacturing facility. This role focuses on electrical control system hardware design and programming, primarily for PLC-based systems, while also involving PC-based system design and software application development as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teams of engineers and internal customers to design, build, maintain, and upgrade automated process control and data acquisition systems.
  • Select and design electrical/control system hardware including controllers, power distribution, cabling, and peripheral devices.
  • Document electrical control system designs through assembly drawings and system wiring diagrams.
  • Develop machine control application programs for motion control, data acquisition, and operator interfaces using various platforms.
  • Generate and execute system and software test plans and develop user manuals for systems/machines.
  • Support assembly, installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and upgrades of new and existing systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Physics.
  • Minimum of four years of relevant experience.
  • Effective working knowledge of CAD for electrical schematics and panel drawings.
  • Experience in motion control programming (Allen Bradley, Delta Tau/Omron, Galil).
  • Experience in PLC-based programming (Allen Bradley/Rockwell).
  • Familiarity with Ignition for PLC to SQL database interactions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly self-motivated with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of PC-based software development (Microsoft .Net VB and C#).
  • Experience with database interfaces (Oracle, SQL).
  • Familiarity with image analysis tools (National Instruments, Halcon, Matrox).
  • Experience with Git, TFS/Azure Devops.
  • Additional knowledge or experience in electrical engineering, software development, or automation systems.
