About the position

The Electrical Engineer will work within the Public Works Department of NAV Facilities Engineering Command SE, focusing on analyzing and improving electrical systems and utilities. The role involves conducting engineering studies, developing long-range plans, and ensuring compliance with design specifications and cost-effectiveness in acquisitions.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze electrical engineering work to determine factors impacting system performance or design specifications.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses to ensure acquisitions are cost-effective.
  • Direct the allocation of resources to accomplish program missions and organizational goals.
  • Conduct engineering studies of electrical equipment and services to propose operational improvements.
  • Develop long-range plans to assure adequate capacities and reliability of electrical utilities.
  • Develop scopes of work for system preventative maintenance and construction estimates.

Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.
  • Experience in modifying standard practices and adapting equipment or techniques to solve problems of electrical utilities.
  • Knowledge of related engineering disciplines applicable to utilities engineering design.
  • Experience in planning, budgeting, and monitoring large scale utility construction projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and engineering drawings, and prepare reports using software like Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Technical background training in electric utilities/power concepts, including utility monitoring systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Evidence of having successfully passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination.
  • Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences.
