About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at Argonne National Laboratory focuses on supporting the transition to a decarbonized economy through the development of sustainable transportation and power solutions. The role involves working within the Advanced Mobility and Grid Integration Technology (AMAGIT) department to evaluate and validate electric vehicle (EV) charging systems and related software, contributing to the creation of better standards for interoperability and charging technology across various vehicle types and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project managers and lead researchers on projects related to evaluation and validation of EV charging system equipment and software.
  • Investigate and develop solutions for creating better standards through validation and iteration of charging systems.
  • Gather data from charging systems on both vehicle and infrastructure ends.
  • Interface with ANL contractors to create Statements of Work (SOWs) and monitor progress toward deliverables.
  • Create test fixtures and procedures to collect data for generating documents related to standards and presentations.
  • Provide support for standards meetings, document preparation, and collating collected information.
  • Generate and revise draft standards presentation materials for standards meetings and DOE progress reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience, Master's degree with 3+ years, or Doctorate with 0 years of experience.
  • Experience with power electronic systems, circuit protection schemes, and EV charging safety.
  • Ability to work independently with safety awareness, confidence, and self-discipline.
  • Proficiency in using DMM, oscilloscope, power analyzer, and similar data collection equipment.
  • Understanding of electrical and electronic hardware components, including ECUs, sensors, and communication protocols like CAN and Ethernet.
  • Familiarity with power transmission/distribution systems.
  • Expertise in designing test cases, conducting testing, and analyzing test results to validate hardware and software components.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Project management skills to set priorities and meet deliverables.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues with test setups and results capture.
  • Technical writing ability and proficiency with document generation software (MS-Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat).
