About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at Actalent is a pivotal role within a multi-disciplinary engineering firm that specializes in public municipal and wastewater projects. The role requires the engineer to work closely with various project design teams and clients to deliver comprehensive electrical system and equipment design services. This includes designing medium and low voltage utility service entrances, power distribution systems, lighting, and motor controls. In this role, the engineer will be responsible for developing and drafting basis of design reports, performing critical calculations such as short circuit, load flow, voltage drop, and arc flash calculations, as well as conducting circuit ampacity and conduit fill calculations. The position demands strong technical, communication, and leadership skills to effectively present findings and integrated solutions to clients through both written reports and oral presentations. Additionally, the engineer will prepare detailed specifications, contract drawings, and contractor bid packages, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary standards and regulations. The work environment is hybrid, with the expectation of being onsite three days a week and working from home for the remaining two days. This flexibility allows for a balanced work-life dynamic while still engaging with the team and projects directly. Responsibilities

  • Work closely with project design teams and customers to provide electrical system and equipment design services.
  • Develop and draft basis of design reports.
  • Perform short circuit, load flow, voltage drop, and arc flash calculations.
  • Conduct circuit ampacity and conduit fill calculations.
  • Provide technical, communication, and leadership skills to present findings and integrated solutions to customers.
  • Prepare detailed specifications, contract drawings, and contractor bid packages.

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or closely related Engineering Degree (required)
  • Working on obtaining EIT/PE license
  • 5+ years electrical design experience of electrical systems (lighting, fire alarm, etc.) for industrial municipal, educational, pharmaceutical, healthcare or manufacturing facilities
  • Experience coordinating designs with equipment vendors (motor control centers, low voltage switchgears)
  • Experience with wire/conduit sizing
  • Familiarity with standards including: NEC, NYC Building Codes, Energy Codes, NFPA Recommended Standards, ConEdison Installation Standards/Blue Book
  • Design experience in single line diagrams
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Experience with electrical system modeling performance software such as SKM or ETAP is a plus
