About the position

BB&E is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support the NAVFAC MIDLANT Program at Norfolk Naval Station, VA. The role involves conducting field evaluations, generating electrical design requirements, and ensuring compliance with safety and code standards. The engineer will also assist in construction quality assurance and facility commissioning processes, utilizing various engineering software and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field evaluations and generate review comments for electrical design proficiency in accordance with code standards.
  • Ensure comments are resolved and incorporated into the design for in-house and A&E design submittals.
  • Conduct site visits prior to design to perform assessments and generate electrical systems design requirements.
  • Assist with construction quality assurance by performing code-required special inspections or electrical observations.
  • Witness acceptance testing and provide troubleshooting recommendations for electrical equipment and systems during facility commissioning.
  • Use AutoCAD and/or REVIT software, Microsoft Office products, and electrical engineering design software to produce analysis results and consolidate findings.
  • Make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies.
  • Comply with Safety Policy and Guidance and use personal protective equipment.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of professional electrical engineering code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in an electrical engineering program from an Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria, and policy related to electrical engineering design.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards, including NFPA 70, IEEE C2, and the International Building Code.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with interior and exterior lighting design.
  • Familiarity with facility power distribution systems, including standby power.
  • Knowledge of telecommunication systems, security systems, and audio-visual systems.
  • Experience with medium-voltage distribution switchgear, substations, and transformers.
