About the position

The Electrical Engineer is a pivotal role within our organization, responsible for ensuring the safe and reliable delivery of electrical power to our manufacturing plants and their associated equipment. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the design, estimation, and installation of electrical power and electronic control systems. The Electrical Engineer will oversee projects from their initial design conception through to the supervision of installation and operator training, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally and safely. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Electrical Engineer will work closely with the Maintenance, Production, and Engineering departments to address any electrical needs and challenges that arise in the manufacturing process. In addition to the core responsibilities, the Electrical Engineer will investigate instrument and control requirements, develop specifications, and recommend the purchase of necessary instruments and controls to ensure effective measurement and control of company equipment. This includes maintaining and calibrating instruments and controls to meet operational standards. The role also requires a proactive approach to troubleshooting manufacturing equipment, directing maintenance teams on proper repairs, and ensuring compliance with the National Electrical Code. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for maintaining proper documentation and drawings of in-plant equipment, conducting spot checks for electrical equipment overloading, and inspecting the maintenance of plant power distribution equipment. The position also includes supervisory responsibilities, overseeing Instrument Specialists and technicians, maintaining calibration procedures, and conducting studies to determine instrumentation needs based on production and quality requirements. The Electrical Engineer will evaluate data performance, modify existing controls and instruments to improve their performance, and ensure a safe working environment by actively participating in plant safety programs. This role is essential for maintaining the continuous operation of our manufacturing plants and ensuring that all electrical systems are functioning efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Provide safe and dependable electrical power to company plants and equipment.
  • Design, estimate, and install electrical power and electronic control systems.
  • Work closely with Maintenance, Production, and Engineering departments to ensure continuous operation of manufacturing plants.
  • Provide engineering consulting for other departments and plants as required.
  • Develop designs, plans, and specifications in collaboration with in-house and outside engineers.
  • Provide cost estimates, design, procurement, and installation for electrical power and control equipment requirements.
  • Act as a project engineer on the installation of new facilities and equipment.
  • Direct outside contractors and supervise Maintenance during installation.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and direct Maintenance on proper repairs.
  • Maintain proper documentation and drawings of in-plant equipment.
  • Conduct spot checks for major electrical equipment overloading and hazard conditions.
  • Inspect and maintain plant power distribution equipment.
  • Stay updated with the National Electrical Code and ensure compliance in electrical work.
  • Supervise Instrument Specialists and technicians.
  • Maintain procedures and records for calibration of plant instruments.
  • Conduct studies on equipment requiring control and measurement and determine instrumentation needs.
  • Investigate commercially available controls and instruments and recommend purchases.
  • Oversee the installation of controls and instruments.
  • Evaluate data performance and report to the Supervisor, Facilities control.
  • Modify existing controls and instruments to improve performance.
  • Maintain a safe working area and participate in plant safety programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a concentration in Power.
  • At least three years of experience in a medium voltage power environment.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Basic background knowledge of metals manufacturing.
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and Excel.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
