About the position

Wagstaff manufactures equipment for aluminum producers, who process formed aluminum into parts and products used in everyday life. The position involves applying electrical engineering and automation knowledge to the design, development, and production of Wagstaff's automated casting equipment. The role requires becoming familiar with Wagstaff's aluminum casting equipment, associated design criteria, and philosophies. The employee will participate with project teams to define the electrical engineering and automation requirements, including planned hours based on the scope provided by Sales. The employee will create the design documents necessary for acquiring customer approval for automation designs and oversee the production of design documents necessary for equipment production, adhering to documented design procedures. As the primary technical contact for customers' technical personnel regarding electrical engineering and automation issues throughout the project, the employee will provide documented technical and analytical evaluations for automation solutions, prioritizing safety, functionality, and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, the employee will participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, train other team members in support of the required engineering and design for a limited number of Wagstaff product lines, and provide technical direction and consultation to other team members. Responsibilities also include designing conceptual and detailed PLC-based control systems, programming PLCs for direct chill aluminum casting pits, developing SCADA and HMI systems, testing and troubleshooting hardware and software, and providing technical support to Wagstaff service personnel and customers. The role may require periodic domestic and international travel depending on customer and company business needs, and work weeks in excess of 40 hours may be required to achieve business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with Wagstaff aluminum casting equipment, associated design criteria, and philosophies.
  • Participate with project teams to define the electrical engineering and automation requirements, including planned hours, based upon the scope as provided by Sales.
  • Create the design documents necessary for acquiring customer approval for automation designs and oversee production of design documents necessary for equipment production, both according to documented design procedures.
  • Serve as Wagstaff's primary technical contact to customer's technical personnel for electrical engineering and automation issues throughout the project, up to and including product start-up.
  • Provide documented technical and analytical evaluations for automation solutions keeping safety, functionality, and cost effectiveness paramount.
  • Participate as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Train other team members in support of the required engineering and design for a limited number of Wagstaff product lines as assigned.
  • Provide technical direction and consultation to other team members.
  • Design conceptual and detailed PLC based control systems and related architectures.
  • Program PLCs for direct chill aluminum casting pits and related device control.
  • Program and develop SCADA and HMI systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot hardware and software.
  • Provide technical support to Wagstaff service personnel and customers to resolve customer issues as they relate to Wagstaff provided automation systems.
  • Perform design review and post-commissioning review for continual improvement of Wagstaff automated products.
  • Keep equipment and work area clean and orderly.
  • Abide by company policies.
  • Commissioning of automated casting systems at customer sites.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Acquires basic knowledge and develops skills in a specific practice area.
  • Applies prescribed and/or standard techniques and procedures in accordance with established criteria to perform assigned tasks.
  • Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work.
  • Acquires an understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
  • Designs a complete project, system, component, or process of standard complexity.
  • Performs standard computations or analysis.
  • Prepares Drawings.
