About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) involves performing complex assignments and managing electrical engineering projects related to building and electronic facilities. The role requires advanced knowledge of engineering principles and compliance with various building codes and standards. The engineer will be responsible for planning, developing, and overseeing projects, ensuring they meet technical and regulatory requirements while collaborating with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Designs, reviews, and manages electrical engineering projects for building and electronic facilities.
  • Plans, develops, and oversees small projects to establish and improve facilities/systems.
  • Prepares engineering plans, specifications, and documents for construction and installation of facilities and equipment.
  • Conducts site surveys and adapts standard engineering designs to project requirements.
  • Estimates, manages, and accounts for funding of assigned projects.
  • Initiates and modifies task orders and contracts with engineering support contractors.
  • Identifies and informs management of problems requiring attention and develops techniques to address them.
  • Performs construction and installation activities, including project coordination and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • A degree in Professional Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent experience is required.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FG/GS-12 level is required, demonstrating knowledge and skills in engineering.
  • Experience conveying technical engineering information to various audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional registration as a licensed engineer in any state, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico.
  • Successful completion of the Engineer-in-Training (EIT) examination.
