About the position

SmithGroup is an award-winning, integrated design firm that blends research, data, and technology with innovation and a creative spirit to deliver resilient, inclusive spaces that solve our clients' greatest challenges. Our teams create exceptional design solutions for healthcare, science and technology, workplace, mixed use, higher education, cultural, waterfront, parks and open spaces, and urban environments. We are looking for passionate problem solvers who want to elevate design, push boundaries and move us closer to a carbon-free future. Care to join us? The Detroit office of SmithGroup is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our team. SmithGroup has been named one of Southeast Michigan's Top Workplaces by the Detroit Free Press for 10 consecutive years! The role will focus on electrically sophisticated projects in Science and Technology facilities, including data centers. These projects are leading edge facilities that routinely win awards for innovation and sustainability. In this role, you will perform analysis, design, and documentation of building electrical systems including low and medium voltage power distribution, site and campus destruction, standby and backup power systems, Battery Energy Storage Systems, and solar to help achieve decarbonization goals. You will independently provide the full range of electrical engineering services on complex innovative electrical systems, revise, review, and coordinate construction documents, and mentor and train junior level staff. Additionally, you will develop solutions to challenging electrical power distribution and lighting systems with integrated architecture and engineering (A/E) project design teams. You will also contribute to SmithGroup sustainable design initiatives by using a variety of software to perform electrical loads, short circuit analysis, generator loads, and lighting calculations. As a fully integrated A/E firm, our lead engineers have a full seat at the table making building decisions with our architects and planners. You will drive design, not follow it.
