About the position

JK Executive Strategies is seeking an innovative and detail-oriented Electrical Engineer to join the University Facilities Design and Construction Department. This role involves collaborating with a team to design safe, efficient, and sustainable electrical systems for major construction projects, contributing to the university's mission as a top public research institution.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare contract documents including drawings and specifications for construction.
  • Visit project sites to analyze existing conditions and update record drawings.
  • Design various aspects of electrical systems for campus buildings using software like AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Coordinate electrical design with the entire design team to ensure cohesive construction documents.
  • Utilize a valid New York State professional engineering license to stamp and sign final contract documents.
  • Define the electrical scope of project work and resolve complex problems.
  • Collaborate with cost estimators to generate accurate cost estimates.
  • Address design changes and clarifications during construction.
  • Train operational staff on system maintenance as part of project documentation.
  • Supervise junior staff and review their work as needed.
  • Collaborate with external design consultants on contract documents.
  • Serve as a design stakeholder on project work.
  • Investigate building record information and program requirements for external consultants.
  • Assist in coordinating the construction process for new builds and renovations.
  • Set work priorities and objectives according to established policies.
  • Peer review electrical engineering scope in ongoing design reviews.
  • Participate in feedback sessions for design progress sets.
  • Communicate regularly with internal and external constituents to resolve challenges.
  • Troubleshoot existing electrical systems for maintenance recommendations.
  • Interface with outside agencies to coordinate work and stay informed of program opportunities.
  • Serve on selection committees for hiring and consultant selection.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Sustainability to improve energy efficiency on campus.
  • Ensure adherence to building codes and federal laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field with 3 years of experience in a design role.
  • New York State registration as a professional electrical engineer.
  • Excellent technical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
