About the position

Kimley-Horn's Orange, CA office is seeking an Electrical Engineer with over 4 years of experience to join their dynamic Electrical team. In this role, you will lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems across various sectors, including renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, transportation, aviation, and industrial projects. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive design documents and reports, which will include electrical layouts, equipment schematics, block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams. Your daily responsibilities will involve interaction and collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, as well as engagement with colleagues across different Kimley-Horn offices. In addition to technical design work, you will prepare project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals that support the growth of electrical engineering service areas both locally and nationally. A key aspect of this position is the expectation to assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand our electrical engineering practice. Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and analysis of complex electrical systems for renewable generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, transportation, aviation, and industrial projects.
  • Develop design documents and reports, including electrical layouts, equipment schematics, block diagrams, electrical system calculations, and one-line diagrams.
  • Collaborate daily with multi-disciplinary teams and interact with colleagues across Kimley-Horn offices.
  • Prepare project specifications, electrical construction cost estimates, and proposals to support the growth of electrical engineering service areas.
  • Assist in mentoring, training, and growing a team to expand the electrical engineering practice.

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience in an Electrical Engineering role.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, IEEE and ANSI Standards.
  • Willingness to travel to support site visits and client meetings as needed.
  • Ability to work in a team, collaborating with and mentoring junior staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in utility-scale PV, wind generation, energy storage, electric vehicle charging infrastructure, microgrid, substation, or data center designs.
  • Experience in engineering project management.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  • Experience in power system analysis using SKM, ETAP, or equivalent.
  • Experience in transient studies using PSCAD, EMTP-RV, or equivalent.
  • Experience in lighting designs and photometrics using AGI32, or equivalent.
  • Comfortable programming in Python or MATLAB.
