About the position

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for overseeing electrical and controls engineering related to the planning, design, project, and construction management of water facilities. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), electrical construction, and motor control centers, with a focus on ensuring the successful execution of projects in the water utility sector.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares construction drawings and writes specifications for electrical design of water system facilities.
  • Performs advanced engineering calculations for low and medium voltage power distribution and motor control.
  • Prepares construction contracts, bids projects, and awards contracts.
  • Specifies, develops bid packages, and procures major equipment.
  • Prepares requests for proposals (RFP) and analyzes/selects successful consultants or vendors.
  • Manages project scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Communicates with project-specific contractors, consultants, agencies, and staff.
  • Prepares data tables, graphs, cost estimations, justifications, and reports for evaluations and projects.
  • Interprets engineering construction reports and drawings, providing input or guidance.
  • Prepares and publishes documents and reports for distribution to communities and government agencies.
  • Utilizes financial software to monitor project costs accurately.
  • Assists in the Company's Public Utility Commission (PUC) rate case filings.
  • Contributes to the preparation of the Company's annual capital budget.
  • Provides construction management and field inspection at project sites.
  • Offers technical support for system operations and maintenance.
  • Presents information in public forums to government agencies and local communities.
  • Participates in the Company's Continuous Improvement program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent relevant water utility experience.
  • Two years of experience working as an electrical engineer.
