About the position

The Electrical Engineer (EE) will be responsible for designing AC and DC power distribution systems, lighting systems, grounding, paralleling switchgear, standby generators, and Building Management Systems (BMS). The role emphasizes power systems studies and calculations, particularly for Power Modules, IT Modules, and Data Centers. The EE will create designs that meet customer specifications and support electrical inquiries and business development activities, while also coordinating with various teams to ensure successful integration of electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the lead Electrical Engineer (EE) on assigned projects from pre-sales to final commissioning stage.
  • Create designs which meet or exceed Vertiv quality requirements and fall within budgetary requirements.
  • Design optimal UPS power systems and/or DC Power Systems based on customer equipment/IT loads.
  • Design switchgear configurations and control schemes, utilizing PLCs and/or relays for automated transfer operations.
  • Design ground fault protective schemes involving multiple sources.
  • Generate bills of material and modify standard assemblies as required.
  • Manage and support contracted integration companies to provide detailed schematic designs and construction drawings for electrical design aspects.
  • Collaborate with general contractors or architects to create a construction document set.
  • Specify appropriate electrical equipment such as UPS, Switchgear, Generator, and DC power systems in collaboration with business units and vendors.
  • Provide detailed sizing analysis of standby emergency generators based on various load types.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and municipal requirements and building codes by working with local agencies.
  • Review and approve electrical product submittals.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests during construction phases.
  • Conduct quality control during integration of electrical systems and support on-site integration.
  • Work with commissioning teams to test and validate installation and performance of electrical systems.
  • Travel to sites for reviews and provide engineering evaluations, audits, and start-up support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Professional engineering (PE) License - optional.
  • Minimum 4 years of Electrical Engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of low voltage switchboard/switchgear design, installation, and use.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal codes governing low voltage switchboards/switchgear.
  • Working knowledge of AutoDesk suite including AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proven experience with Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical construction drawings and equipment specifications.
  • Understanding of the National Electrical Code.
  • Ability to research new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven project management skills.

  • Experience with Modbus and TCP/IP communications protocols.
