About the position

This position is for an Electrical Engineer who will prepare designs for electrical systems for various projects. The successful candidate must have good organizational and teamwork skills, proven problem-solving abilities, a can-do attitude, and the desire to innovate designs. This role will be based in Knoxville, TN, with periodic business travel required. The primary engineering activities will involve providing the engineering design for electrical systems and equipment for the entire facility in preparation for procurement and construction. The individual must have an understanding of all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, system descriptions, schematics, and electrical equipment layout, and be able to perform cable sizing calculations. Additionally, the engineer will perform special tasks and calculations/studies, conduct checking as required, and properly interpret and apply codes & standards and customer design requirements for applicability to electrical design documents, specifications, material requisitions, and system descriptions related to design tasks. The candidate must be a self-starter capable of independent creative design, with direction, using Bechtel and industry-proven concepts and procedures. Collaboration with other disciplines and effective communication within a team are essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Provide the engineering design for electrical systems and equipment for the entire facility in preparation for procurement and construction.
• Understand all engineering discipline drawings and electrical discipline wiring diagrams, system descriptions, schematics, and electrical equipment layout.
• Perform cable sizing calculations and special tasks and calculations/studies as required.
• Conduct checking as required and properly interpret and apply codes & standards and customer design requirements to electrical design documents.
• Work independently on creative design tasks with direction, using Bechtel and industry-proven concepts and procedures.
• Collaborate effectively with other disciplines and groups, ensuring clear communication and teamwork.

Requirements

• BS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university with 1 year of related electrical engineering experience.
• US citizenship is required, along with the ability to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
• Possess active security clearance or the ability to obtain security clearance.
• FE/EIT Certification or the ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
• Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NFPA, ANSI/IEEE, etc.).
• Working knowledge of electrical systems, schematics, and electrical equipment layouts.
• Experience with industry-wide electrical design tools, such as CAD 2D, ETAP, and electronic Cable Management System.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• MS degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
• Experience with SETROUTE program and ability to input and complete corrections to the database.
• Knowledge of Bechtel corporate guides and standards.
• Experience in facility construction, start-up, and maintenance practices.
• Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.
