About The Position
The Electrical Engineer position at Brookhaven National Laboratory's Superconducting Magnet Division (SMD) involves a multifaceted role focused on the design, construction, and testing of superconducting magnets utilized in particle accelerators globally. The SMD is also engaged in creating magnets for various applications, including Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage, and offers magnetic measurement services across the laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing detailed designs, generating engineering drawings and specifications, and preparing presentations for design reviews. Additionally, the role includes building and evaluating prototypes, estimating costs and schedules for projects, and managing vendor evaluations and component procurements within project scopes. The engineer will also be tasked with upgrading and maintaining existing electrical systems, such as power supplies, control systems, and test instruments, as well as writing software for instrumentation, controls, and data acquisition systems. Project management and leadership are essential components of this role, requiring strong organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse teams of scientists, engineers, and technical staff.
