About the position

Magswitch Automation Company, operating under the name Magswitch Technologies, is seeking a skilled Electrical Engineer to join our team in Superior and Longmont, Colorado. This position is integral to our mission of designing and developing innovative electromechanical systems. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic environment that allows for occasional remote work, providing flexibility while ensuring collaboration with our teams. The role involves a combination of design, development, and testing of electronic hardware, as well as interfacing with controls and robotics for both internal and customer testing. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for overseeing electronic manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with testing requirements and industry standards. This position also requires up to 20% domestic and international travel, allowing for engagement with our overseas manufacturing teams and customers. The Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in the design of electronic systems, particularly in the area of magnetics, including electromagnetics and electropermanent magnetics. The candidate will be expected to create electrical schematics, design PCBs, and write software for both new and existing hardware. Regular communication with the project manager regarding project status, timelines, and budgets is essential, as is the ability to identify and escalate any risks to project schedules. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in electrical engineering principles and a passion for innovation in automation technology.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test electronic hardware (PCBs, wire harnesses, etc.) for use in electromechanical systems.
  • Design electronic systems for magnetics including electromagnetics and electropermanent magnetics for areas such as coil design for generating magnetic fields.
  • Create electrical schematics and design PCBs.
  • Write, revise, and improve software for both new and existing hardware.
  • Interface with controls and robotics for internal and customer testing including the use of PLCs.
  • Work closely with overseas manufacturing team including off hours meetings.
  • Oversee electronic manufacturing to ensure it meets testing requirements and industry standards.
  • Conduct root cause failure analysis and assist RMA in repairs as needed.
  • Work with contractors and customers as needed.
  • Stay on track to project timelines and budgets.
  • Regularly report on project status to manager.
  • Identify and promptly elevate any risk to project schedules and budgets to manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field of study.
  • 24 months experience as Electrical Engineer, Automation Engineer, or related role.
  • Knowledge in microcontroller programming and embedded systems.
  • Experience with PCB testing.
  • Electronics experience including DC motors (stepper, servo, brushed, brushless) and various sensor technology (discrete and analog).
  • Familiarity with industrial controls and PLC programming, specifically CODESYS.
