About the position

The Electrical Engineer at Consumers Energy is responsible for engineering and design to support the sustainable operation of the distribution system. This role involves collaboration with various teams and external stakeholders to develop technical projects that align with the company's vision of a cleaner and leaner utility. The position requires a strong understanding of electric utility operations and the ability to apply engineering principles to design and implement electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, control, and implement electrical systems and products.
  • Design, maintain, implement, or improve electrical instruments, facilities, components, equipment products, or systems for various purposes.
  • Perform a wide range of engineering tasks using computer-assisted design or engineering software and equipment.
  • Collaborate with customers and coworkers to discuss existing or potential engineering products or projects.
  • Ensure installation and operations conform to standards and customer requirements by preparing specifications, technical drawings, or maps.
  • Establish construction, manufacturing, or installation standards by performing detailed calculations.
  • Ensure compliance with specifications, codes, or customer requirements by directing or coordinating various activities.
  • Write reports and compile data regarding electrical engineering projects and studies.
  • Prepare specifications for purchases of electrical equipment and materials and estimate costs for budget preparation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with two (2) or more years of applicable engineering experience.
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with two (2) or more years of applicable engineering experience.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes related to electronic engineering.
  • Proficient in design and calculation software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of electric utility distribution planning, construction, operation, and maintenance.
  • Working knowledge of electric utility operation (generation, transmission, and distribution of three-phase alternating current power).

Nice-to-haves
