About the position

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Junior Electrical Engineer to join our team in Kirkland, WA, where you will lead and work on various Power & Renewable and Electrical Engineering projects. This position offers a hybrid or remote work opportunity within the US, or it may be based in one of our office locations throughout the country, depending on the applicant's location. As a Junior Electrical Engineer, you will report directly to the Chief Electrical Engineer and will be responsible for possessing a deep and broad base of knowledge in Engineering Design, particularly in Power and Industrial Projects within the US. In this role, you will contribute to the team by providing electrical engineering design on power and industrial projects, supporting project scope and estimating, and providing input to project cost and schedule. You will also be responsible for conducting electrical system studies and calculations, preparing engineering reports, tender and construction drawings, and documents, as well as developing wiring diagrams and schematic diagrams. Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, and IEEE standards is essential, and experience with high voltage substation design is a valuable asset.

Responsibilities

  • Providing electrical engineering design on power and industrial projects.
  • Providing support on project scope and estimating.
  • Providing input to project cost and schedule.
  • Conducting electrical system studies and calculations such as load flow and short circuit analysis, relay coordination and programming, arc flash analysis, grounding, and lightning protection system calculations.
  • Preparing engineering reports, tender and construction drawings, and documents.
  • Preparing equipment specifications and selection and performing technical bid evaluations.
  • Preparing power distribution layouts, grounding and lightning protection system design and layouts.
  • Developing wiring diagrams, single line, three line diagrams, and schematic diagrams.
  • Interacting effectively with other disciplines on multi-disciplinary projects.

Requirements

  • Electrical Engineer Degree from a recognized university.
  • 2-5 years of experience for Junior positions.
  • Engineering design background in power, industrial, and high voltage substations (AIS and GIS).
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and standards (NEC, ANSI/IEEE).
  • Excellent communication skills with a focus on client management.
  • Valid P.E. in the US or have NCEES record.
  • Experience with electrical equipment such as switchgears, MCC's, transformers, generators, and substation equipment.
  • Experience in developing one-line diagrams, 3-line diagrams, and schematic diagrams.
  • Experience or prior exposure to power system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, relay coordination, grounding/lightning protection system).
  • Experience or prior exposure to power system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM, Easy Power, CDEGS.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with high voltage substation physical and protection and control system design.
  • Familiarity with NEC, ANSI, and IEEE standards and recommended practices.
