About the position

Leidos Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support various defense-related programs, particularly focusing on the design and engineering of systems for the United States Coast Guard (USCG) ships and other marine vessels. The role involves collaboration with engineering and production teams to develop innovative solutions, while also interfacing with Program Managers. The position allows for a hybrid work model, with a preference for candidates local to Washington, DC, but fully remote candidates will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Perform calculations and apply electrical engineering principles to address technical issues during the design and engineering of USCG ships.
  • Communicate technical principles directly to clients.
  • Conduct quality assurance reviews of analyses, calculations, and drawings.
  • Design electric and electronic systems, studying power generation and distribution, and centralized machinery monitoring and control.
  • Develop and evaluate technical reports related to C5I systems onboard USCG ships.
  • Review and evaluate the impact of new or modified electronics on overall system performance.
  • Adjudicate system design specifications, test requirements, and engineering changes.
  • Familiarize with US Navy, USCG, ABS, and commercial ship design rules and regulations.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance.
  • B.S. Degree or higher in Technical, Engineering, or Marine Degree from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience integrating C5I systems in categories such as Cybersecurity, Command and Control, Navigation, Networking, Internal Communications, External Communications, Sensors, Combat Systems, or Intelligence Systems.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience developing and integrating shipboard C5I systems with a focus on design and implementation.
  • Meets Department of Defense IAT Level II Baseline Certification Requirements.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Technical proficiency in electrical engineering disciplines.
  • Solid organizational and time management abilities.
  • Proven collaboration skills with management and peers.
  • Proven track record interacting with customers on technical and programmatic issues.
  • Flexible and resourceful with a proactive approach.
  • Proficiency in standard electrical system design and analysis.
  • Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Outstanding oral, written, and presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Shipyard Production Systems and shipboard medium and low voltage power systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD, AutoCAD, and Rhino software.
  • Knowledge of MIL Standards and Specifications.
  • USCG experience.
  • Experience with Department of Defense ACAT I or Department of Homeland Security Level I shipbuilding programs.
  • Previous experience with shipboard and defense C5I systems.
