About the position

Akima Infrastructure Services (AIS) is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team in Oak Ridge, TN. As part of our mission, we are dedicated to supporting our shareholder communities in Alaska while providing vital services to our government customers. The Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in coordinating and performing electrical engineering activities that are essential to our projects. This position involves evaluating existing equipment and infrastructure, performing load calculations, and selecting appropriate equipment such as switchgear and disconnects. The engineer will also be responsible for creating single line and raceway drawings, generating electrical bills of materials, and developing scopes of work to support procurement and subcontracting efforts. Additionally, the role includes developing and executing test plans, and understanding arc flash calculations using SKM software is a plus. The Electrical Engineer will also support the installation and startup of designs in the field, requiring effective communication with craft staff and supervisors. In this role, the Electrical Engineer will research, develop, design, test, and evaluate electrical components, equipment, and systems. The engineer will apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering to design equipment and systems for various applications, including commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes. The position requires the ability to handle moderately complex issues and problems, providing technical advice and performing functions as directed by supervisors or project engineers. The engineer will ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulatory requirements and industry standards, while also promoting safety in engineering activities through the ISMS process and other safety management programs. Responsibilities

  • Researches, develops, designs, tests, and evaluates electrical components, equipment, and systems.
  • Applies principles and techniques of electrical engineering.
  • Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.
  • Designs and may direct engineering personnel in fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, determining methods, procedures, and conditions for testing products.
  • Performs work under general supervision, handling moderately complex issues and referring more complex issues to higher-level staff.
  • Provides technical advice and performs technical functions as directed by their supervisor, line management, project engineer, or Engineering Manager.
  • Supports achievement of line management objectives and provides timely responses to project and functional requests.
  • Retains and exercises responsibility and accountability for technical implementation within the integrated project team.
  • Interfaces with functional management on work standards, lessons learned, work process initiatives, and technical issue resolution.
  • Implements training and qualification processes required by functional management for personnel.
  • Participates in the assessment process to ensure safe and effective implementation of engineering activities.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Provides for safety in engineering activities and resulting designs via appropriate safety management programs.
  • Ensures technical personnel are trained to functional procedures and requirements flow to project plans and subcontractor documents.
  • Provides occasional technical support to other projects and functional groups.

Requirements

  • BS Degree in Engineering
  • 5 years of relevant experience in engineering.

Nice-to-haves
