About the position

The Senior Electrical Engineer position is located within the FAA's Office of Facility Management, focusing on the planning and execution of complex electrical engineering projects related to new construction and renovation of facilities. The role involves providing management guidance on electrical system designs, ensuring compliance with high-performance building standards, and applying advanced engineering principles to support infrastructure projects. The engineer will also mentor junior engineers and lead project teams, contributing to the development of energy-efficient systems and compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and accomplish complex electrical engineering projects under minimal direction.
  • Serve as a senior electrical engineer for new construction and renovation of existing facilities.
  • Provide management guidance on electrical system designs that align with high-performance building standards.
  • Create design and construction documents for electrical systems using CAD software like AutoCAD.
  • Perform regular inspections and maintenance to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Serve as a project manager to prepare project plans, schedules, deliverables, and requirements.
  • Prepare budgetary cost estimates with a high level of detail for management presentation.
  • Mentor less experienced electrical engineers and conduct development sessions.
  • Review architecture and engineering consultants' work for compliance with program requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent education and experience.
  • Current registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I (FG/GS-13) level in facilities electrical systems design and construction.
  • Experience leading major project teams and providing mentoring and guidance in electrical engineering.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with renewable energy systems and energy audits.
  • Knowledge of FAA's energy policies and building codes.
  • Familiarity with energy design systems software.
