About the position

The Electrical Engineer (Facilities Electrical Design Engineer Staff III/IV) at The Aerospace Corporation plays a crucial role in the design and support of corporate development construction programs across various facilities. This position involves working on new buildings, renovations, and infrastructure renewal projects, ensuring that all designs meet the necessary specifications and standards. The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for developing conceptual designs, creating cost estimates, and managing outside consultants to ensure that projects are completed within budget and on schedule. The scope of work includes minor and major building remodels, which may involve wet and electronic laboratories, clean rooms, computer rooms, grounding systems, isolated power setups, collaboration and conference rooms, offices, kitchens, and both low and medium voltage electrical distribution systems. In this role, the Electrical Engineer will provide engineering services for the electrical design of projects, collaborating with project teams to create conceptual plans and statements of work for new building or modification projects. Attendance at pre-construction meetings is essential to address critical electrical issues such as equipment lead times, potential power outages, electrical submittals, installation methods, and special applications. The engineer will also consult with the Safety Department to ensure compliance with electrical codes and provide support in analyzing and evaluating existing site and building power distribution systems to identify areas for improvement. Additionally, forecasting future electrical needs is a key responsibility, ensuring that the facilities are equipped to handle upcoming demands.

Responsibilities

  • Provides engineering services for the electrical design of projects.
  • Works as part of project team to create a conceptual plan and statement of work for new building or modification projects.
  • Attends pre-construction meetings to emphasize any important electrical issues such as equipment lead time, power outages, electrical submittals, installation methods or special applications.
  • Consults with the Safety Department on matters regarding code compliance.
  • Provides electrical facilities engineering support to analyze and evaluate existing site and building power distribution and general systems to provide improvement to existing electrical systems.
  • Forecasts future electrical needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Six or more years of relevant experience.
  • Experience working with ladder control diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code and motor circuit design.
  • Comprehensive understanding of electrical power systems, theory, and analysis.
  • For Staff IV: 10 or more years of relevant experience.
