About the position

The Electrical Engineer position is a senior-level role focused on providing advisory services and engineering design solutions in the energy sector. This role involves mentoring junior staff, engaging with clients to assess their energy needs, and developing comprehensive plans and solutions that span the entire project lifecycle. The position is integral to the expansion of the Energy & Power Solutions team, addressing the complexities of energy resiliency and decarbonization.

Responsibilities

• Lead an electrical engineering team to provide advisory services and engineering design solutions for clients across all market sectors.
• Collaborate with Client Account Managers and sales professionals on strategic pursuits.
• Mentor and manage junior and mid-level electrical engineering staff members.
• Engage with clients to evaluate their energy needs and develop concept-level plans and solutions.
• Take projects through detailed design to ensure full execution of solutions.
• Formulate strategies for business development and sales in the energy transition portfolio.
• Anticipate challenges and manage project delivery details effectively.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Power Engineering or related engineering discipline.
• At least 10 years of engineering design and/or consulting experience.
• Professional Engineering licensure (any US state), or ability to gain licensure within 1 year.
• Proven ability to engage with clients, develop relationships, and win work.
• Demonstrated ability to engage in business growth strategy and explore new project opportunities.
• Experience with proposal development and project execution planning, including scope development and manhour estimates.
• Strong communication and technical writing skills.
• Availability to travel as required to support project needs (typically less than 50%).
• Availability to work at least 2 days per week in the Cary, NC office when not travelling.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with power distribution systems and microgrids.
• Experience with power generation projects exceeding 10MW capacity.
• Experience with HV or MV substations.
• Experience with renewable energy projects including wind, solar, hydro, geothermal, and other technologies.
• Experience with energy storage systems.
• Power system modeling experience using SKM Power Tools, ETAP or similar modeling software.
• Experience with protection and control, SCADA, or power system automation.
• Experience with campus utility master planning or decarbonization/climate response planning.
• Experience with cogeneration or combined heat and power systems.
• Experience with thermal utility plants and distribution systems (steam, hot water, chilled water).
