About the position

The Electrical Engineer position at Gas Transmission Systems, a Kleinfelder Company, involves performing responsible engineering work in the design and analysis of electrical projects. The role requires independent action and decision-making under supervision, focusing on overhead and underground electric power transmission and distribution projects. The engineer will engage in various activities including asset investigation, electrical design, cost estimating, and data analysis, contributing to the overall success of utility solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Review designs and documentation to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and design criteria.
  • Prepare designs, calculations, schematics, layouts, and studies from field inspections, preliminary sketches, specifications, and instructions.
  • Develop asset data integrity strategy, including processes for data capture and validation.
  • Perform asset investigation and create electric components list.
  • Acquire and analyze data using appropriate standard quantitative methods.
  • Prepare construction specifications and bid packages.
  • Provide technical guidance to team members on Electrical Engineering test methods.
  • Develop status reports with task completion, progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Coordinate with internal teams on design and value engineering input for permitting and interconnection.
  • Leverage cost and performance knowledge to inform early-stage design decisions and equipment selection.
  • Perform detailed engineering designs and technical reviews of low voltage distribution, high voltage transmission, and PV solar design packages.
  • Perform calculations including electric loads, pole loading, voltage drop, voltage rise, flicker, and pulling tension.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant experience
  • Familiarity with electric distribution systems including layout, conductor sizing, transformer selection, and meter selection
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and controls design for remote control, feedback, and automation (Preferred)
  • Utility Business Understanding (Preferred)
  • Engineer-In-Training Certification (Required)
  • Professional Engineer License (Required, or ability to obtain)
  • Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software (Desired)
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code (NED), electrical power transmission and distribution systems (Desired)
  • Proficient use of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
