About the position

Farnsworth Group is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team in Champaign, IL, as well as in our St. Louis, MO, Denver, CO, and Peoria offices. This position is ideal for an individual who is passionate about engineering and is eager to contribute to meaningful projects in various sectors, including industrial, oil and gas, advanced manufacturing, and renewable energy. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the full electrical design process, which encompasses power distribution, controls, renewable energy systems, medium voltage systems, substations, lighting, and communications. You will work collaboratively with a team of engineers, architects, surveyors, and scientists, all committed to making a positive impact through their work. In this role, you will assume multi-project responsibilities, engaging in code research and application, conducting fieldwork to ascertain existing conditions, and developing preliminary schematics through to final designs. You will also be responsible for calculations, equipment specifications, sizing, and layout, as well as coordinating with other production staff and engineering disciplines. Your duties will include the preparation of accurate electrical system construction drawings and specifications, submittal review, and construction administration. Additionally, you will conduct power systems studies and interface with clients and contractors, maintaining project design budgets and schedules while ensuring quality. A key aspect of this role is mentoring designers and drafters, fostering their professional growth and development. This position reports to an engineering manager who will provide mentoring and training opportunities for your professional advancement. Responsibilities

  • Assume multi-project responsibilities for full Electrical design, including Power Distribution, Controls, Renewable Energy Systems, Medium Voltage Systems, Substations, Lighting and Communications.
  • Conduct code research and application.
  • Perform fieldwork to ascertain existing conditions.
  • Develop preliminary schematics through final designs.
  • Conduct calculations and prepare equipment specifications, sizing, and layout.
  • Coordinate with other production staff and engineering disciplines.
  • Prepare accurate Electrical system construction drawings and specifications.
  • Review submittals and manage construction administration.
  • Conduct power systems studies.
  • Interface with other disciplines, clients, and contractors while maintaining project design budgets and schedules.
  • Mentor designers and drafters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 4-8 years of experience in technically complex system design.
  • EIT designation required; Professional Engineer License (PE) preferred.
  • Wide range of design experience, including industrial power distribution, controls, and medium voltage systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with others.
  • Ability to solve complex power engineering problems.
  • Experience in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of codes and standards associated with electrical power, including National Electrical Code, National Electrical Safety Code, and applicable IEEE Standards.
  • Ability to pass background checks and comply with immunization requirements for industrial clients.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to client sites in support of projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • NCEES Record holder preferred.
  • Knowledge of Navisworks software preferred.
  • Knowledge of SKM PowerTools, Easy Power, and/or ETAP preferred.
