About the position

Headquartered in north Austin, Texas, Firefly is looking for passionate, hardworking innovators to join our team and help fuel our successful trajectory into space. Firefly is hiring for an Electrical Engineering Hardware Manager to lead a team of engineers who are responsible for the development, production, test, and integration of various electrical components for all space vehicles. This is a hands-on manager role which may additionally be responsible for development tasks in several areas, depending on the skills of the manager. You will ensure the team has the resources to accomplish its milestones, track tasks against schedule expectations, and grow the skills and capabilities of the team members. In addition, you will foster communication between the Avionics Hardware team and the other teams at Firefly, as well as outside contractors and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the team responsible for the development of design concepts and architectures to support Firefly's current and future launch vehicles.
  • Identify tasks and resources required to meet company objectives, and develop schedules for completion.
  • Track progress against schedules and make corrections when necessary.
  • Work with outside vendors and contractors to improve their performance against design requirements and schedule.
  • Contribute directly to Avionics hardware development tasks, potentially including circuit design, harness design, and/or systems integration.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science or other related fields.
  • At least 7 years' experience in the design and development of high reliability electronics hardware, preferably in an aerospace system environment.
  • Knowledge of the development issues associated with one or more various types of components, including RF systems, command and control, power systems, harnessing, and other systems.
  • Experience developing task lists, schedules, and other project management skills.
  • Experience working with vendors and contractors, managing their progress and issues.
  • Outstanding leadership abilities with small teams, and the ability to clearly communicate with engineers and technicians.
  • Ability to travel to support test and launch operations.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing teams of engineers.
  • Experience with small space launch vehicle design, development, production, test, and operations.
  • Knowledge of Inventor and/or NX CAD software.
  • Experience with test programs of electrical components to aerospace requirements.
  • Experience with system engineering of electrical and avionics components, and how they integrate into a full launch vehicle systems.
