About the position

The Electrical Engineering Intern position at POWER Engineers offers a unique opportunity for students pursuing a degree in electrical engineering to gain hands-on experience in utility substation design. Interns will work under the guidance of experienced engineers, engaging in various aspects of substation design and participating in professional development activities to enhance their skills and networking opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the detailed design of low to extra-high-voltage utility substations including one-line diagrams, control and relaying schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform design calculations in accordance with industry standards such as IEEE, NEC, and NESC.
  • Assist senior engineers with QA/QC design checks.
  • Support design engineers with physical and protection/control design efforts for electric utility substations.

Requirements

  • Pursuit of a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technology, or renewable energy engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interest in consulting engineering and the electric utility industry.
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of a 3.00 GPA.
  • Successful completion of junior-level courses in power system analysis and/or power system protection.
  • Attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Prior internship and/or related engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with design, drafting or engineering software such as MATHCAD, SOLIDWORKS, AUTOCAD, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Students who have passed or are scheduled to take the FE/EIT exam.
