As an Electrical Engineering Intern in the Transmission & Distribution, Substation group at Burns & McDonnell, you will be responsible for performing tasks that require the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This role involves standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, and assisting lead engineers with various project duties. Your assignments will vary depending on the market segments, specifically focusing on electrical transmission projects in power delivery, which includes overhead and underground transmission, distribution systems, substation design, telecommunication and network engineering, pipelines, renewable power integration, security, and grid modernization. In this internship, you will assist with a variety of tasks such as filing, scanning, data entry, and documentation. You will also help in preparing PowerPoint presentations and responding to general inquiries. Participation in continuous improvement efforts is expected, where you will collect and analyze data to present solutions to concerns. Additionally, you will research solutions to project-related issues and analyze and recommend solutions to problems. You may also assist with ad hoc projects assigned by managers, contributing to the overall success of the team. To be successful in this role, you should be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited program. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is strongly preferred, along with prior internship or related consulting experience. Active involvement in campus or community activities is also preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong problem-solving and analytical skills, and basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs are essential. Demonstrated leadership skills and a self-motivated attitude with a willingness to learn and grow within the field are crucial for this position.
