About the position

The Electrical Engineering Sr Technician - 3rd Shift position at General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems involves hands-on work with control systems and maintenance of production equipment. The role is critical in ensuring the reliability and functionality of electrical and automation systems within the manufacturing environment. The technician will be responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and assisting in equipment repairs, contributing to the overall efficiency of the production process.

Responsibilities

  • Hands-on experience with control systems for Plant and Production Equipment.
  • Experience in low voltage power distribution, circuit protection and fuse replacement.
  • Installation, setup, and maintenance of control equipment including flow switches/meters, photo eyes, proximity switches, level transmitters/switches, DP cells, pressure, and temperature transmitters.
  • Maintain function and reliability of production and plant systems by executing a preventive maintenance program.
  • Inspect electrical and automation systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
  • Install EMT and rigid conduit.
  • Perform preventive/corrective maintenance and investigate problems with mechanical equipment following diagrams and specifications.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, cranes, rigging, and hand/power tools.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits using testing devices to ensure compatibility and safety.
  • Troubleshoot and modify PLCs, controls, meters, and sensor hardware.
  • Guide and assist maintenance mechanics with equipment repairs.
  • Carry out daily maintenance activities and assigned work orders, documenting progress and results.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety, environmental, and housekeeping standards.
  • Maintain ongoing necessary training, certifications, and education.
  • Assist supervisors in after-hours maintenance calls.

Requirements

  • 2-year technical degree in Electro-Mechanical or equivalent certification.
  • 0 to 2 years work experience (internship acceptable).
  • Proficiency with electrical and mechanical system troubleshooting with knowledge of AC and DC voltages.
  • Proficiency in reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to multi-task and effective written/oral communication skills.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations.
  • Ability to work multiple shifts and overtime as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with safety equipment and personal protective equipment.
