About the position

The electrical engineering technician role at George Schmitt & Company is a critical position within the engineering team at our manufacturing plant in Guilford, CT. This full-time position requires an experienced individual who can handle a variety of tasks in a job shop environment, providing essential support to production departments and ensuring the smooth operation of electrical systems and machinery.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair electrical system problems on printing presses, converting machinery, and material handling equipment.
• Propose, build, and install machine modifications, upgrades, and retrofits for existing equipment.
• Prepare electrical maintenance schedules for existing and future equipment.
• Manage electrical spare part inventory for existing and future equipment.
• Install, maintain, and support camera inspection systems as needed.
• Maintain and support corona treatment systems as needed.
• Troubleshoot ink management and UV curing systems as needed.

Requirements

• Proven track record of applicable industrial experience in electrical engineering.
• Proficient in the use of measuring instrumentation such as VOM, ammeter, and oscilloscope.
• Working knowledge of AC, DC, stepper, and servo motors, drives, and controllers.
• Proficient in troubleshooting circuits with power supplies, relays, motors, drives, and various field devices.
• Understanding of fuse types and usages.
• Ability to modify schematics as needed and generate schematics for small panels from scratch.
• Working knowledge of panel building for small capital projects.
• Ability to make breadboard simulations as needed.
• Compliance with NEC and OSHA standards for all installation assignments.
• Comfortable working with voltages up to 480VAC and 180VDC.

Nice-to-haves

• Component level troubleshooting experience.
• Working knowledge of PLC programming.
