About the position

The Electrical Estimator for Renewable Energy at McCarthy Building Co. is responsible for performing quantity take-offs and pricing for electrical estimates, ensuring accurate and competitive bids for large-scale commercial construction projects. This role involves collaboration with architects, consultants, and trade partners to clarify project scope, develop pricing strategies, and maintain compliance with MEP codes. The estimator will also participate in the internal estimate review process and assist in the final assembly of estimates for presentation to clients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quantity take-off and pricing of electrical estimates.
  • Develop and document logical assumptions during conceptual estimating activities.
  • Communicate with architects and consultants to clarify and document discussions regarding intent and scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements.
  • Conduct reviews of milestone documents to identify changes in work scope and develop pricing of value alternative opportunities and recommendations.
  • Participate in the internal estimate review process.
  • Assist with final assembly of estimates for presentation to the Owner.
  • Solicit trade partners during the bidding process.
  • Analyze and scope trade partner electrical proposals.
  • Collect and organize all bid information for input into historical cost database platform after the bid.
  • Assist field operations with change order pricing.
  • Maintain working knowledge of MEP codes and changes to codes.
  • Prepare scopes of work for subcontracts.
  • Coordinate electrical scope of work with architectural, structural, and mechanical estimators.
  • Prepare budget comparisons between current and previous estimates.
  • Utilize current technology to enhance services on both hard bid and negotiated projects.
  • Schedule and meet with trade partners during the face-to-face scope meeting process.
  • Participate in schedule preparation/evaluation process with McCarthy and trade partner employees.
  • Communicate the McCarthy BIM process to trade partners.
  • Direct, coordinate, and provide information and documents to trade partners.
  • Prepare contractual exhibits for scope of work for subcontracts.
  • Participate in hard bid/estimating and GMP budgeting activities by soliciting trade partner support and evaluating proposals.
  • Build relationships with trade partners to obtain a competitive advantage for McCarthy.
  • Attend industry events and represent McCarthy in a professional capacity.
  • Build and maintain relationships with external McCarthy clients.
  • Keep current with the latest estimating technology and techniques.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of electrical estimating experience and/or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
  • Proven experience estimating large projects is desired.
  • General knowledge of construction principles/processes.
  • General knowledge of different contractual delivery methods (e.g., negotiated bids, hard bids, GMP processes).
  • Knowledge of Microsoft programs, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and others.
  • Ability to use or learn to use WinEST, TSI, Quick Pen, Accubid, OST, QTO, and other estimating programs.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with McCarthy core values.

  • Experience with BIM processes.
  • Familiarity with the latest estimating technology and techniques.

  • Competitive salary range of $75,000 - $81,700.
