About the position

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Electrical or Architectural Engineering student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2025 at our Greenwood Village, CO, San Antonio, Texas, or Chamblee (Atlanta area), Georgia office. This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on rewarding client projects while being exposed to unparalleled training and development opportunities. The summer internship will require a commitment from approximately mid-May through mid-August 2025. We will be accepting resumes for this opportunity from approximately September to November 2024, with interviews taking place in the Fall/Winter and offers extended in Winter/Spring. Please note that the timeframe is subject to change. The Merrick Intern Program is designed to provide undergraduate or graduate students with technical experience in the field of electrical engineering. Interns will engage in a variety of electrical engineering tasks, including facility electrical power, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, communication systems, the LEED certification process, sustainable buildings, and renewable energy design. This position requires collaboration with other disciplines, the ability to interface with clients and contractors, adherence to schedules and budget commitments, and the capacity to work independently. Strong written and oral communication skills, along with problem-solving abilities, are essential. Interns must also meet expectations for attendance and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Gain technical experience in the field of electrical engineering.
  • Work on facility electrical power, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, and communication systems.
  • Participate in the LEED certification process and sustainable building projects.
  • Engage in renewable energy design tasks.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and interface with clients and contractors.
  • Follow project schedules and budget commitments.
  • Work independently and demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Problem-solve effectively and meet attendance and punctuality expectations.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of facility electrical and lighting design and/or power system design.
  • Currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in graduate school.
  • Pursuing an engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an electrical emphasis from an ABET accredited university.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for client projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Revit.
  • Knowledge of lighting design software (AGi32, ElumTools).
  • Knowledge of power distribution design software (SKM PowerTools, Easy Power).
  • Local candidates preferred.
