About the position

Merrick & Company is offering a paid summer internship for college or graduate school students specializing in Electrical or Architectural Engineering. This internship is set to take place during the summer of 2025, with a commitment period from approximately mid-May through mid-August. The internship will be available at various locations including Greenwood Village, CO, San Antonio, TX, or Chamblee (Atlanta area), GA. This opportunity is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in the field of electrical engineering, allowing them to work on rewarding client projects while receiving unparalleled training and development opportunities. Interns will engage in a variety of tasks related to electrical engineering, which may include facility electrical power design, lighting design, grounding, lightning protection, communication systems, and involvement in the LEED certification process. Additionally, interns will gain exposure to sustainable building practices and renewable energy design. The role requires collaboration with other engineering disciplines, effective communication with clients and contractors, adherence to project schedules and budgets, and the ability to work independently. Strong written and oral communication skills, along with problem-solving abilities, are essential for success in this position. Attendance and punctuality are also critical expectations for interns. The internship program is structured to provide students with real-world experience, allowing them to contribute to actual client projects while developing their professional skills. Interns will benefit from coaching and mentoring, participate in weekly training meetings, and have opportunities to meet with senior leadership, including the CEO and President of the company. Responsibilities

  • Gain technical experience in the field of electrical engineering.
  • Work on facility electrical power design, lighting design, grounding, and lightning protection.
  • Assist in the design of communication systems and participate in the LEED certification process.
  • Contribute to sustainable building practices and renewable energy design.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines and interface with clients and contractors.
  • Follow project schedules and budget commitments while working independently.
  • Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills and problem-solving abilities.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of an undergraduate degree or currently enrolled in graduate school.
  • Pursuing an engineering degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an electrical emphasis from an ABET accredited university.
  • Knowledge of facility electrical and lighting design and/or power system design.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required for client projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of Revit.
  • Familiarity with lighting design software such as AGi32 or ElumTools.
  • Experience with power distribution design software like SKM PowerTools or Easy Power.
  • Local candidates preferred.
