About the position

The Electrical, Failure Analysis Reliability Engineer will be responsible for executing the qualification of electronic components and conducting failure analysis for Energy Technology products. This role requires a strong technical background in engineering, particularly in understanding various physics-based component failure mechanisms. The engineer will collaborate with a diverse team across North America to ensure the reliability and robustness of electronic components used in product designs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct advanced component level failure analysis (FA) using methodologies such as X-Rays and Cross Sectioning.
  • Provide support in qualifying and validating electronic and electromechanical components.
  • Develop and execute failure analysis methodologies and lead root cause identification initiatives.
  • Drive post-test component performance analysis and documentation.
  • Assist engineering teams with system level test procedures, procuring resources and equipment, implementing tests, and troubleshooting complex issues.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing partners and other engineering stakeholders to optimize product designs for reliability and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate with electronic component suppliers and distributors on component failure modes identification and evaluation.
  • Conduct component quality assessment and defect analysis.
  • Coordinate with external FA labs to scope appropriate evaluation methodologies and interpret results, recommending mitigation actions.
  • Assist with and implement design changes to improve robustness, manufacturability, reliability, serviceability, and eliminate unnecessary cost and complexity.
  • Implement and execute component level qualification matrices DFR and evaluation guidelines.
  • Drive analytical troubleshooting, problem-solving, and team development to solve operational issues and reach performance goals.
  • Develop formal failure analysis report data and findings after analysis completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5 years of engineering experience in electronic component application and validation, preferably in a residential/commercial products environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with physics-based failure analysis of electronic components and documentation using Internal/External FA tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with the design and development of power electronics/power converters.
  • Experience with solar, energy storage, or other clean energy technologies.
  • Experience with Altium or similar schematic capture and PCB Layout.
  • Experience with various state-of-the-art analytical tools including external visual examination, cross sectioning, microscopy, radiographic examination, and bench testing.
  • Demonstrated experience processing acquired data and information sets to arrive at a conclusion regarding the cause of failure.
  • Experience evaluating corrective and preventative actions to address quality issues.
