About the position

The Electrical Hardware Development Engineer II position at Amazon's Prime Air team focuses on testing and developing power electronics hardware and electrical power systems for drones. The role involves working collaboratively with a team to innovate and solve real-world delivery challenges, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of drone technology.

Responsibilities

  • Test power electronics hardware, batteries, and analog/digital devices components such as inverters, battery chargers, DC-DC converters, and protection circuitry.
  • Design and develop test fixtures and setups for components, hardware, and system tests.
  • Generate schematics and other conformity documentation for test fixtures and systems.
  • Support engineering and interact with suppliers/partners on validation/verification of critical components hardware from concept to mass production.
  • Support development of hardware, component, and system level test plans/procedures/reports.
  • Increase the engineering rigor behind hardware bring-up, verification, qualification test, and documentation.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Minimum 2+ years' experience developing and testing power electronics hardware, batteries, and electrical power systems
  • Understanding of power semiconductor switches and diodes, and their characteristics
  • Understanding of devices built upon various materials such as Si, SiC, and GaN
  • Highly skilled working in lab environment with high voltages and currents
  • Experienced with software tools such as Spice, PLECS, Python, and Matlab
  • Experience leading PCBA/Hardware Board bring-Up and validation testing
  • Expedience leading electrical power system testing
  • Experience with PCB design tools (Altium preferred)
  • Experience with CAD software (CATIA preferred)
  • Experience with drafting test plans, procedures, and report documentation
  • Experience with written and verbal communication in aerospace and/or automotive industry settings

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with commercial aerospace standards (DO-254, DO-160G, DO-178)
  • Experience with aerospace standards testing (DO-254, DO-160G, and DO-178)
  • Experience developing aviation power electronic hardware
  • Familiar with reliability testing and calculation standards MIL-STD-217 & Telcordia SR-332
  • Knowledge or experience using FEA simulation tool such as Ansys Maxwell/Q3D or equivalent
